Nearly 10,000 Doctors Resign in South Korea


This Tuesday (20th), over 2,700 interns and resident doctors from Seoul, South Korea, collectively submitted resignation letters and went on strike to protest against the expansion of medical school admissions.

As the situation escalated, as of 10:00 PM local time on the 21st, a total of 9,275 resident doctors, approximately 74.4% of the resident doctors, had submitted resignation letters.

Shortly after the strike began, several hospitals posted notices stating they would temporarily suspend outpatient services, or that the available beds had already been filled. On the 22nd, the South Korean government elevated the medical system crisis level to "serious."
