At what age do age spots start to appear?
Age spots, clinically known as "seborrheic keratoses," refer to benign skin growths caused by the proliferation of keratin-forming cells. They are a relatively common benign skin tumor and are more commonly seen in people over the age of 45.
Typically, age spots appear on the head, face, upper limbs, back of the hands, and trunk. They appear as flat, light brown papules and macules that may feel smooth to the touch or have a slight elevation.
As age increases, the number of age spots increases, and their color tends to darken. It's worth noting that age spots are not exclusive to older individuals; some young people may also develop age spots.
